My understanding is that most Broadway shows have; not sure if that applies to off-Broadway (which can ill afford those extra costs regardless).
But in any case it probably needs to be said that these are mostly all new plays, still in previews or, in the case of Downstate, having just opened the other day – so in all those cases, even if there was TRIPLE coverage for understudies as I think there was for something like The Lehman Trilogy, they presumably wouldn’t have had time to be rehearsed yet (I can’t speak for what happened with the revival of A Delicate Balance). |
