| Fine tuning theatre trip to NYC. Already on the agenda: - MJ - tkt bought - A Man of No Importance - tkt bought - Some Like It Hot - Should I risk TDF ticket? I've seen on this board that people have had great luck... - A Strange Loop - tkt bought - Kimberly Akimbo - will get tkt soon Three remaining slots. Options: - Into the Woods (the cow!) - Downstate - Top Dog/Underdog - Ohio State Murders - Between Riverside & Crazy Feel free to make it harder by suggesting things not on the list. I've already seen all the long running shows I care to & saw Take Me Out last spring. I've ruled out 1776, KPOP, A Beautiful Noise & Almost Famous. & Juliet I will see when it comes on tour to San Francisco. I want to see one or two straight plays. Thanks |

| Of your five options I would second Into the Woods and Top Dog/ Underdog, despite the overly loud pre-show and intermission music of the latter. Would also highly recommend Tom Stoppard's semi-autobiographical Leopoldstadt, and experiencing the full orchestra in a surprising and unexpectedly moving 1776. If you must see the weird little Kimberly Akimbo, you can probably get seats on TKTS. | |

| Pass on "Ohio State Murders." It's part monologue, part play (with thankless supporting roles), but not entirely one or the other. And running 75 minutes, overpriced. "Between Riverside and Crazy" is excellent. Funny, suspenseful, beautifully acted. Worthy of its Pulitzer. | |

| All good choices, and I agree with what you've ruled out. Downstate is a must-see. I'm having a hard time thinking of something I would put above it. Haven't seen Ohio State Murders yet. Leopoldstadt is also worth considering, as others have said. It's very good. Did it change my life? No. But will we see another new Tom Stoppard play? Perhaps not. And this one is excellent. And I agree with the comments on Into the Woods. If you have seen good productions before, this may not be a must-see. The cow is fun. But I have major issues with the rest of the direction. (Some of the costumes are atrocious, and the witch's transformation is just embarrassing.) Of the three revivals on Broadway right now, I liked The Piano Lesson the best, and I wasn't expecting to. And I liked Death of a Salesman the least. Topdog/Underdog is a really solid production (I liked it more than the original, partly because I think the two actors are more evenly matched here, and perhaps partly because I'm older). To some extent it also depends on your mood - The Piano Lesson is more uplifting ultimately, while Topdog/Underdog is...less so. I could totally argue for seeing Downstate, Leopoldstadt, and then either The Piano Lesson or Topdog/Underdog, depending on mood/personal preference. Also worth pointing out, since it seems like you're trying to squeeze in as much as possible, that there are (Saturday matinees of the Mike Birbiglia show at 4 pm (and I'm seeing a Saturday matinee at 5 pm), and then also there is The Wildly Inappropriate Poetry of Arthur Greenleaf Holmes on Wed and Thu at 9:30 at The Tank (so could fit after a 7 pm curtain, of which there are many). I've seen both, and while I wouldn't say either should take the place of something else, they are great add-ons, if the timing works. They're both quite short, and while humor is different for everyone, both made me laugh a lot. (I think I actually saw both on 3 show days, and in each case, they were my favorites of the three shows I saw each day). Be warned - Arthur Greenleaf Holmes is VERY dirty. Very funny, but very very filthy. |

| Yes, the cow is very fun... but I'd very much include some of the cow's stuff in the issues I have with the direction. Completely, wildly upstaging the entire scene/song of "It Takes Two" is not my idea of good direction for this musical. | |

| You can buy tix for the streaming performances on Second Stage’s website. The shows are in late Jan/early Feb. That way you can see it without giving up one of your in-person slots. Busy Bee |

| I'm so glad to hear that Second Stage is streaming again, although I will probably see Riverside in person. I thought the stream for Clyde's was extremely well-done, and it gave me the chance to see a show I would never have seen in person. It's understandable that they chose not to stream Take Me Out, but I'm happy that this may be a regular thing, and I hope other theaters like MTC start doing it as well. | |

| Absolutely see Downstate. One of the best new plays I've seen in a long time. I would also strongly recommend Leopoldstadt, over the other plays you have on your list (though I have never seen or read Ohio or Riverside) If you're the type who loves Into the Woods and needs to see every major production, or every major cast, then you must see this. If you're the type who loves Into the Woods but you don't feel compelled to see a solid but unimpressive production with a great but very uneven cast... you may not need to see this one. I am glad I saw it... but it's not some visionary new take, or a revelatory cast, or bringing much new to it (mostly I'd say for it that it finds humor in new places, and didn't manage humor that has been there in the text since the beginning, which is both good and not good). If you've never seen Top Dog/Under Dog... it's a play I respect more than love, but it's an interesting play, and this revival provides just phenomenal acting from the two stars. Strange Loop is a must, and Kimberly Akimbo is definitely what I'd recommend (i saw it off-bway, I'm told it now feels like an off-bway musical somehow on broadway, but hey, whatever, that's where it's playing now) For what it's worth, I have not heard great things from friends who saw MJ. |

| Definitely DOWNSTATE and LEOPOLDSTADT. TOPDOG for the performances. LOOP for its message. KIMBERLY for Clark but the show encourages illegal behavior. | |
