| Gil wrote: "It should be noted that the two boys were the only members of the cast not carrying their scripts around to refer to, which is not usually the case at a benefit concert. It's nice to see the two of them being so professional." Actually, no - that's entirely UNprofessional. All members of the cast should be following the same protocol. Either the company all carries scripts (referring to them or not) or they don't. The boys should have had their scripts. Unwittingly, the boys stole focus - and Gil noticed it enough to comment on it. That shouldn't have happened. Say it was the other way around - that the adults were adamantly off book but the kids weren't. We'd then have to either make excuses for "the poor kids who didn't have the time (or experience/talent) to get their lines down," and/or we'd want to criticize the adults for making the kids look out of place. Everyone should have had scripts. Even if they never looked at them. Or, the adults should have memorized their damn lines, so as not to make the performance about the boys showing them up. (But frankly, as Gil suggests himself, scripts are not a crime in an event performance like this.) |
