| Last night I saw the TV commercial for the current production of "1776" which promotes it as "the Tony-winning Best Musical", failing to mention that the Tony-winner was the original production and not this one. But I suppose I should expect this from Roundabout. |

| Merrick had moxie, which is more than I can say for most Broadway producers nowadays. No lie was told. |

| But it's not wrong. The musical itself DID win a Tony. For best musical. If they claimed it had won Tonys for acting, or directing...that would be disingenuous as this production doesn't have the same actor or director as the production that DID win Tonys for those things. Seems like a far cry from the creative (albeit underhanded) stunts that Merrick would pull to see his shows. | |
