Music Man on TKTS

I noticed that Music Man was on TKTS yesterday at 50% off. Was Jackman not performing? Or has he (and that supposed Music Man) reached its saturation point?

I believe Jackman was out and Max Clayton went on as Harold Hill. They must have been flooded with cancellations which is too bad since Clayton is terrific in the role.

Does Jackman get docked when he misses a performance?

I assume he have been getting rather high compensation for doing what he does. If he doesn't go it, does he go unpaid? Or does some kind of insurance kick in to make up for the ticket shortfall.

He, like all actors, are paid pursuant to contract (whether the basic production contract or his undoubtedly specially drafted one). In that contract he would be entitled to certain paid time off. Keeping tabs on other folks' leave accounts is not something I do, so I don't know, but my guess is he still has ample leave that he has not used. So, unless my guess on that is wrong, and I doubt it is, he would not be "docked." "Dock," in the employment context, refers to a punishment. I can pretty much guarantee you that no one is punishing him. And if for some reason he would need to miss more than the contemplated amount of time, something would be worked out. One can buy insurance for this (as one can for anything) but it is (a) pretty expensive and (b) probably subject to a deductible that would far exceed the "shortfall" the production experienced.

As someone who saw it without Hugh … Clayton is fine but nowhere near terrific in the role.

One man’s fine is another’s terrific. I’ve seen both and thought Clayton was great as well. He certainly doesn’t have Jackman’s charisma or Jackman’s nasal singing voice.

Clayton may be the greatest understudy in the history of the Music Man. No one spent hundreds of dollars for tickets to see him.

I’m getting refund next wed if Hugh is out. I have other places to spend $300.
