| The category was Musical Theater. The answer was, "The pair at the center of tumult in this long-running show were originally going to be a Jewish girl & a Catholic boy." I guess my theater nerdiness is showing, because I thought it was a gimme, but only one of the contestants correctly answered WEST SIDE STORY. One guessed FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, which I suppose makes a modicum of sense. Cris Pannullo, the champion, guessed TONY & TINA'S WEDDING (?) but he had a runaway anyway so it didn't matter as he won his 12th game. I wonder if they were maybe thrown a bit by the "long-running" in the clue? The original production ran 732 performances, which isn't a notably long run, whereas FIDDLER and T&T are associated with long runs. It just seems odd to me that someone would know about TONY & TINA'S WEDDING yet still miss WSS. But then I'm not standing on the Alex Trebek stage with a clock counting down. |
