| Absolutely. Some complaints, nonetheless an entertaining production. I’ll admit that during the first few moments of Del Aguila’s performance I feared a possibly offensive stereotype in the offing. I was wrong. The delight that Del Aguila brought to the role was nothing less than infectious. *****Spolier****. J. Harrison Ghee is deserving of a Leading Actor Tony nomination. Ghee, both in life and as Daphne identifies as non-binary. Leading Actor? Leading Actress? At present there is no category into which Ghee neatly fits. Is it the producers that nominate Ghee for the particular category? Does the Tony nominating committee have input? ‘Official’ Broadway has some interesting decisions to make, particularly as the community remains quite literally under attack in this nation. |

| Ghee is not trans. Ghee may not believe in or identify in the binary gender construct as it were, but Ghee is in a biological male body, and as such, from a physical place has no choice but to begin the approach and/or process of any role (playing characters who are male, female, nonbinary, trans) as a male-bodied person, wherever they transform to from that. If it helps, Ghee's character is not just Daphne, it is Jerry/Daphne. Ghee opens the show playing Jerry, a male-bodied person self identifying as male, who finds himself in and as Daphne. That is enough for me to say that character and the actor belong, at least for lack of options, in the Best Male Actor category. |

| Since the categories are still binary, I would expect Ghee to default to the Actor category. Non-binary is not the same as trans, so it would be weird to put Ghee into Actress, as Ghee has never (to my knowledge) identified as female. | |

| As a former member of the nominating committee, I can tell you the committee has no input regarding the nominations. We are presented with the list of eligible actors and their categories and vote on them. The producers have no say, as the nominations are based on billing. They can, however, make a case for an actor to be placed in a particular category. Whether or not the administration committee acts on that is up to the committee. (At least that’s how it was was when I was a nominated. It may have changed since then.) | |

| The nominations are no longer based on billing. That rule was discarded long ago when you had actors like Rita Moreno being put in supporting categories when they were indeed leads, as she was in The Ritz. These decisions of categories are decided by the nominating committee and producers can petition them, but it is that committee's final decision that rules. The nominating committee is then given those edicts by the nominating committee. | |

| Thank you for taking the time and energy to explain this. I welcome information from those within the business who can present facts, especially as opposed to those outside the business who present conjecture in the guise of factual information. Correct me if I’m mistaken, as it stands unless the producers petition for a change the billing will determine if Ghee is nominated as lead or featured. How is it determined as to whether it is in the actor or actress category? | |

| Right, but those were men playing female characters. We're discussing the identity of the performer here. An openly non-binary performer has not yet been nominated so it poses a new challenge to the Tony committee. | |

| It would seem most logical and appropriate to ask the performer the category they prefer. Is there really any other answer here as to who should make this decision? | |
