| What a major talent she was. I was so looking forward to seeing her in a JCS tour in the 90s, but she pulled out early on. I’ve never seen this clip (and didn’t know she made her professional debut on Broadway at age 8!) but have never seen “Hot Lunch” performed outside of the film. If you’re a fan of that soundtrack, it’s a treat! Of note: being early, early Letterman, there’s almost no sound mix so we’re getting a nearly clean stand alone vocal… but the piano sounds hugely out of tube? Or old? |

| So sorry to hear about her passing -- really talented performer! I recall reading that she was in the original Manhattan Theater Club cast of "Ain't Misbehavin' " but at some point she was replaced by Charlene Woodard after its initial run. I don't know why she didn't continue with the show. Her songs and filmed performances will "live forever", but she is gone much too soon at age 63. Rest in peace. | |

| Although Irene was born in the Bronx, she moved into our Mitchell-Lama mid-Manhattan co-op when she was 10 (53 years ago). Our building was brand new. She was already a professional. Occasionally she would entertain at a co-op event. Her mom was a cashier at our ground floor grocery. Her mom, of course, took pride in her accomplishments and we watched Irene's professional growth (which seemed to wane as she searched for adult roles -- I may be wrong -- and just lost track of her). What a talent. | |

| She was quite popular during the 1980s, and "Fame" and "Flashdance" were two very popular dance and music-oriented films of that period. Plus she won an Oscar for writing a Best Song. I'd rather thought more folks might have some memories or stories about her to share. | |

| Here’s her performance of “Out Here On My Own” from the movie. Incandescent. | |

| You’re welcome! I have to admit I may have shed a tear watching and listening to that perfomance after not having seen it for so many years. Not only did she sing the song so movingly but also acted it so well. | |
