| Yes, the songs work beautifully, and the whole show is about writing a play, with lots of very knowing jokes about Shakespeare. A sheer delight about the power and purpose of art to uplift people. | |

| Hmmmm doesn't look like my kind of show but the NY Times liked it, but my friend didn't, but you did, but you thought Beanie would get a Tony nom, I don't know what to think! I really don't want to see a jukebox musical right now but you and Jesse almost make me rethink that. Grrr.... I'd take a free ticket, I guess! Then again, my time is precious. Just thinking out loud! | |

| I cannot stand bio-jukebox musicals - but this one integrates songs into the plot. It’s just a coincidence that you know them working in. Most of them could have been written for that moment. And the show is witty, clever and fast paced. I don’t really see how anyone that likes musical theater could dislike this. My only minor quibbles are that I wish the choreography and physical direction rose to the level of the book (certainly the directors comedic chops are on display). While both don’t get in the way of the proceedings, neither add all that much. | |

| I know someone who loves musical theater that didn’t love & Juliet. Don’t people who love musicals love original scores? Is it better than Mamma Mia? I did not like that on Broadway though I did enjoy the movies. Shoe-horning songs not written for the theater into a plot has never worked for me. | |

| I went to the pre-London tryout run at the Opera House in Manchester (I lived near Manchester at the time) with absolutely no expectations, having booked a cheap ticket mostly because of Miriam-Teak Lee. I had such a good time that I went back once it transferred to London. I don't know anyone, even people who usually hate jukebox musicals, who didn't enjoy it. | |

| I enjoyed the show immensely but what does modern pop music have to do with Shakespeare anyway? Interestingly we’ve had two fun musicals with Shakespeare as a character in a relatively short amount of time though the other had an original musical score. And now I wish someone would revive Two Gentlemen of Verona which was done so well at the Delacorte with Oscar Isaac, Renee Elise Goldberry, Norm Lewis and Rosario Dawson. |

| but what does modern pop music have to do with Shakespeare anyway? Seems to me that when Rodgers and Hart were working on The Boys From Syracuse and writing the songs that they hoped would become standards in their day, and the same for Porter with Kiss Me Kate, the modern pop music of the time had plenty to do with Shakespeare. And then you yourself praise Galt MacDermot's pop music score for Two Gentlemen of Verona to boot. Oh - you meant pre-existing pop songs? But you didn't say that. :-) |

| Speaking of Shakespeare-inspired musicals, I wish the Public would do Peter Mills and Cara Reichel's ''Illyria'' at the Delacorte. It's adapted from ''Twelfth Night,'' and Mills' beautiful score includes ''Save One,'' about a love triangle: Viola, Olivia and Duke Orsino. Exquisite! |

| No jukebox musical makes me feel good. Just another lazy attempt. And another step forward in the destruction of musical comedy. | |

| And another step forward in the destruction of musical comedy. First of all, when the term "musical comedy" was used in the 1980's stage version of 42nd Street, it already felt like a nostalgic, almost pastiche term. Did you mean "musical theatre?" Second of all, I was around 11 or 12 when I first started paying attention to Broadway shows. I'm 58 now. For all of those years I've been hearing that the musical (and musical theatre in general) was dying, or dead, or being destroyed, etc. And yet, here we are, even after a major pandemic that closed everything down, still with new musicals being written and yes, celebrated. I'm not sure whether to strike up a chorus of "I Ain't Down Yet" or "He Is Not Dead Yet" or even "And I Am Telling You (I'm Not Going)," but your "destruction" comment just doesn't ring true. BTW - I'm not a huge fan of jukebox musicals either. But that doesn't mean that anything is being "destroyed" by having them. |

| I believe every show deserves to be judged on its own merit. To me, there are terrific jukebox musicals, and there are terrible ones. Just as there are terrific original musicals and terrible ones. It all comes down to execution, talent and your taste, which can vary. Comden & Green were once given the assignment to write a movie using a bunch of 1930s songs. It became: ''Singin' in the Rain.'' Broadway might be more resilient than expected. Whenever I hear predictions of its doom and demise, this lyric comes to mind: ''The theater is dying. The theater is dying. The theater is practically dead ...'' It's from ''Intermission Talk,'' a lyric from a show whose title is close to the one that kicked off this thread: ''Me and Juliet'' (1953)! |

| There is nothing lazy about the construction of this musical; it is firing on all cylinders throughout, delivering a truly original musical comedy story that makes great use of pre-existing songs. To me, it's not that different from, say, "Crazy for You". You may not enjoy the form, but don't diminish the work that went into creating this very satisfying evening. The highlights of my theater going this past week were "& Juliet" and "Some Like It Hot", which make a very strong argument that musical comedy is thriving on Broadway. |
