but what does modern pop music have to do with Shakespeare anyway?
Seems to me that when Rodgers and Hart were working on The Boys From Syracuse and writing the songs that they hoped would become standards in their day, and the same for Porter with Kiss Me Kate, the modern pop music of the time had plenty to do with Shakespeare.
And then you yourself praise Galt MacDermot's pop music score for Two Gentlemen of Verona to boot.
Oh - you meant pre-existing pop songs? But you didn't say that. :-) |
