| S/F - I think you overstate the power of the Times these days. A STRANGE LOOP had rave review. Weak sales. Closing. We'll see what happens with AINT NO MO. 10 Rave reviews out of 10. It has had death spiral sales over its first 4 weeks. Lets see if the 10 raves make it a hit. I have heard a lot of very disappointing word of mouth about the show. I'm seeing it next week. SALESMAN had great reviews. Its playing to 65%. The revival of the revival of TAKE ME OUT, a critics favorite, is playing to 50%. TOP DOH UNDERDOG, with great reviews is playing to 57%. The Times hasnt helped any of these shows. Virtually all of the reviews of A BEAUTIFUL NOISE have been negative. I'll bet they continue to gross over $1,000,000 a week, because it plays into the wheelhouse of the women 55+ who still buy most Broadway tickets. And of course WICKED, loathed by every critic in the US except USA Today, didnt miss a beat on its road to mega mega success. So don't be misled into thinking the Times still has major influence. It can help a little, or hurt a little. But it can no longer make or break your show. | |
