The last book musical to announce recoupment while playing at the Broadway was The Color Purple which ran from 12/1/2005 to 2/24/2008. Prior to The Color Purple, Miss Saigon was a hit, running there from 4/11/1991 to 1/28/2001.
Only two hit book musicals over a period of almost 22 years. That's more than a bit of an albatross -- I'd call it a big, old fat one. Just IMO. |
