| I used to try and see everything that opened on Broadway and for a number of years I mostly succeeded. I used to think it was cool to drop the fact that I saw a super short lived production in conversation. In someways striving to see everything meant that I did wind up seeing amazing stuff that might not have been on my radar... I also saw a lot of garbage. During the pandemic I realized I didn't miss it and the idea of working five days and spending 3-4 weeknights in a cramped Broadway theater (which I often did) isn't appealing. I've been far more selective lately. As discussed below the prices definitely are a major consideration for me. When I moved to NYC in the early aughts between TDF and rushes you could see most shows for around or under $30. The prices are almost double that now, and I personally think $60 is a lot to spend to go see a show on a day that may not be ideal in a seat that I would never chose, etc. I'd also add that there was something VERY nice and fun about in-person lotteries, running into friends, chatting with new people, feeling part of a community, etc. that is completely lost by the soulless "we're collecting your info for our lists" digital lotteries. |
