| I used to see about a show a week between Broadway and off Broadway. Now I see about a show a month. All the reasons mentioned — prices, audience behavior, mediocre productions. Plus having to strategize endlessly to get decent seats at the best price they go for — ticket buying has become a game — ridiculous online fees, being herded into theaters like cattle, uncomfortable seats, transportation in and out of Manhattan, my own aging and the experience of having seen many revivals in their original productions. I have become way more selective, but I hope a new generation of completists who have more patience than I do is evolving. |
