What's still puzzling is: Why didn't the producers cast Lea Michele in ''Funny Girl'' in the first place? (She probably would've won the Tony, too!)

Michele's sung a number of ''Funny Girl'' songs on ''Glee.'' At the height of ''Glee's'' popularity, Michele even sang ''Don't Rain on My Parade'' at the 2010 Tony Awards. This revival is directed by Michael Mayer, who directed her in ''Spring Awakening.'' It's like everything was lined up for her.

Were the producers were initially hesitant about casting her, due to accusations of her diva behavior on ''Glee'' (2009-15)?

Anyway, Michele has proven to be a financial godsend to ''Funny Girl.'' Since she joined the cast, the show has grossed over $1.6 million every week (except for one week where she was sick). On Thanksgiving week, it even hit $1.8 million. By contrast, the show only reached $1.4 million once during Beanie Feldstein's run. And by July, Feldstein's final month, the bottom had dropped out, grossing between $700,000 and $800,000.

What a difference Michele makes, especially as she's booked on various TV shows to sing the praises of her show, and literally sing its songs.
