| An Atlantic writer noted that the AI is, for now, best treated like a toy, and I've been having a lot of fun doing just that. Here's what the bot generated when I asked it to "Write a short play in which Jud from oklahoma is replaced by Joey from Pal Joey." (The stage is set with Joey seated on a chair and the other characters from Oklahoma standing around him. Curly is pacing nervously in the center of the stage.) Curly: (To Joey) What are you doing here, Joey? You're not supposed to be in this play. Joey: (Smirking) I'm here to shake things up, Curly. I heard this was a boring old play, and I thought I'd add some excitement. Aunt Eller: (Skeptically) Excitement? I don't know about that, Joey. This is a wholesome, family-friendly play. Joey: (Winking) Don't worry, Aunt Eller. I'll keep it clean. Laurey: (To Joey) So, you're the new guy in town? I've heard so much about you. Joey: (Charming) That's right, Laurey. I'm a singer and a dancer. And I have a way with the ladies. Laurey: (Blushing) Oh, really? Joey: (Grinning) Really. And I have my eye on you, Laurey. Curly: (Jealous) Hey, Joey. Laurey is my girl. Stay away from her. Joey: (Mockingly) Oh, come on, Curly. You can't be jealous of little old me. Curly: (Angrily) I'm warning you, Joey. Laurey is off limits. Joey: (Sighing) Fine, Curly. If that's what you want. But you're missing out on a good thing. (The play continues with Joey causing trouble and stirring up drama between the other characters. Despite his antics, Joey and Laurey continue to be drawn to each other. The play ends with Joey and Laurey standing together, united in their attraction despite the obstacles in their way.) |
