| I have moved on too. I just invested what I would have spent on 3 trips to Broadway on a brand new TV that provides a glorious picture. I somewhat agonized over this because my previous TV was still operable and I thought it a bit wasteful. Then I realized I was mixing up my money a bit on how I consumed art which is very important to me. This year I have attended 40 shows, mostly Broadway, Off-Broadway and concerts. Spent more on Carnegie Hall this year. But I agree that Broadway ticket purchasing has become a game which I have tired from. I used to like to look forward to planning out my Broadway season and would utilize mailer preview pricing but that’s a thing of the past now. Today it feels like you’re a sucker if you don’t wait until the last minute to buy a ticket to get the best deal. This results in 2 outcomes for me - I see a lot less shows because of poor word of mouth and a reduced sense of excitement about the upcoming season because I am not booked. |
