The pandemic changed a lot of things for a lot of people. It forced us out of our habits and to re-evaluate them. I am seeing a lot fewer shows than pre-pandemic. Between cost, cancellations, planned absences that aren't announced, transportation issues, and general hassle, there are a lot of potential minuses to going to a Broadway show. Discounts seem less common. And the show isn't always good enough to outweigh the minuses.

Before the pandemic, I was an "awards completist." I tried to see everything that won a Tony or other major award because I felt like those are the shows that people will look back on historically. I was able to do that for about ten years, with a fair amount of trouble, and then the pandemic happened. I didn't see A Christmas Carol or The Sound Inside, which combined won half the awards. Then this past year, there wasn't a single play that won a Tony that was still having performances after the ceremony, and it didn't happen again. Now, I'll still try to see the Best Play and Best Musical winner, but otherwise, forget it. I am no longer a completist, and you know what? It makes absolutely no difference.

Two different people told me they played Wordle every day, and then they missed a day and their very long streak was over. And they've never played it since.

Before the pandemic, the frequent Broadway theatergoer was only 5% of ticketbuyers but we bought 28% of all tickets. I think that audience segment's practices are significantly changed from before. Frequent theatergoer is no longer an automatic habit. I hope the Broadway League realizes this and tries to look into it, but I am not holding my breath.
