Just a quick comment supporting both what Charles1055, and AlanScott, are saying.
a) The In-person lotteries are a ritual that I always enjoyed. You do meet a lot of fellow theatre nutter soul mates. Plus a feeling of earned success when your time on the line pays off in getting a nicely discounted ticket!
b) And Alan, such a great theatre historian as yourself must have noticed some things that I have noticed: a) the theatres that were built 100 years ago for much smaller sized humans really owe it to their patrons to lose a few seats and replace them with comfortable seats for the 21st century. b) Theatre owners have actually made it worse (in some cases) by cramming in EXTRA seats to increase capacity. For example, one used to be able to walk across the back of the Alvin/Neil Simon theatre. Then all of a sudden (I think it was during the run of HAIRSPRAY) rows of extra seats suddenly appeared in the formerly open area. Not only do things like this disfigure the integrity of the original architectural design, but they make it more cramped and uncomfortable for all of us.
