Often in productions I've seen, everyone stands around like an awe-struck choir, conveying the felt "meaning" - but that original staging conveyed the excitement of being young and being new! (Which made for bittersweetness.)
There's an old rule-of-thumb: if you want the audience to cry, hold back tears. |
