In cases where the star is the show, is the production still required to hire an understudy? I was listening to Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill and checked IBDB for standby info; none was listed. Same for Ohio State Murders. I also noticed Billy Crystal had no cover in Mr. Saturday Night.
I know that covers don't necessarily need to be listed, but I wonder if there's a contractual obligation to hire one to create work for the maximum amount of Equity members? Or is there a workaround in cases were it would be more likely to cancel a performance than send on the understudy? |
