There’s no question they’ll get nominations for Book, Score, Clark, Milligan, maybe Cooley, and almost certainly Musical. But I doubt they’re in the running for Director, there’s no Choreography to speak of, the arrangements aren’t distinctive enough for Orchestrations, and the Design is just bad.
So, I think they’ll do well in terms of nods, but in a season with Some Like It Hot and Here Lies Love, I don’t think they’re remotely in line to be a front runner.
It’s still only December, but based on what’s opened or previously played in New York so far, I’d say of those possible Kimberly noms, Clark is the likeliest to win, though if Ruthie Ann Miles is in Here Lies Love, all bets are off.
I thought Milligan would have the inside track, but I didn’t feel the transfer served her well. I think Betsy Wolfe has the better shot for & Juliet, though one could argue she’s really a lead.
That said, I think Kimberly will probably keep running as long as it isn’t losing much money. |
