You think it should have less plot? Isn't it already mostly a concert? That attracts the fans it has. I wanted more (and less tired) of a plot. But giving more time to that would mean less time given to performance numbers, and maybe you'd lose those fans.
I'm thinking out loud here, but I think it is a dilemma of balance. Maybe the Off Broadway version had a better balance.
