| I went during previews because I was convinced that it would be a tough ticket after opening. I felt an energy from the minute I walked in. Lots of young people everywhere. As Act 1 ended, I had to talk myself into staying for Act 2. What an insanely talented group of performers. Top notch energy and stunning vocals. I wish that I had the clout and money to pick them all up and put them in a different show. The book/script seems to have been written over the course of a few days (or hours.) It is like a bad "B" movie. Luckily, about halfway through Act 2, they throw the script out the window, and it turns into a concert, which lets it end on a high note. The sad part is that any future musicals that may offer this particular genre of music, will always be judged by this one. KPOP, the musical genre, is indeed a phenomenon across the world, and deserved so much better. I feel terrible for the cast and my apologies to the ATC folks that enjoyed it, but for me it remains a disappointment. |
