RE: saying the show is largely not effective anymore, I do mean comparatively. It still moves me and engages me - i like it to an extent, but I know too much. Of course I can never experience any production of the revised Merrily without having known the original first. So I know my view of it has a filter that many other audiences experiencing it don't have. I can't quite take it for what it is now, without comparing it, knowing what it was, how it made me feel, how it worked when it did and why it did vs what is or isn't doing that for me in the new one. On one hand I'm jealous of people who get to take the show as it is ... but on the other I'm very glad I get to have been introduced to it from the original and experience how that made me feel. I wouldn't trade it.
