| Not paying the Shuberts (or Nederlanders et al) is not an option. If a show's box office taking are less than the theatre's costs for teh week (forget production costs), the producers get a bill. You pay that bill. Or go to court. If the show is grossing enough to possibly recover - the theatre might cut you slack). AINT NO MO (and KPOP) have grosses so microscopic that there is no chance of recovery. They have to close because a) they see no hope of selling tickets going forward and b) they are running out of, or already have run out of, money. No investor is going to step up and bail out a show which is DOA. |
