The first few numbers (mostly nightclub) sounded a like and played to an audience. It wasn’t until osgood showed up did the show really start to work—Kevin is fantastic in the part and should get a supporting tony nomination.

I’m not a big fan of borle so my expectations aren’t high for him and he did fine. But he doesn’t pass as a woman at all.

As for the second act, I think the show really works. I haven’t seen the movie in decades so I can only speak for the musical, so I felt daphne slow realization of being a woman worked really well. And I have to call you on the sex change operation—even today, not all transgender get sex reassignment surgery. Many live fulfilled lives with partners without it. So osgood is an older man with four ex wives—penetrative sex with daphne is probably not that high up on the list anyway. And Ghee could easily pass for a woman. I think in 1930s being a biracial couple would be more the issue wagging tongues in upper society.

I loved the slapstick door slamming scene.

As for amplified—ALL musicals are overamplified (I was in mezz for Kiki and herb in San Fran and I had to use them). I have to wear earplugs all the time—it’s a matter of how deep they are inserted. I will say music man was not bad and I actually could hear hugh jackmans actual voice in the first row—something that is not common in most shows.

Once osgood showed up, I loved the show for the rest of the night.
