| I saw the show at Wednesday's matinee and quite agree with most everything you say. I did like Christian Borle a bit more than you did but agree his song doesn't quite work. The big thing that was missing as you point out is vulnerability. Sugar is not vulnerable (that is not the same as weak) and neither really is Daphne. Neither of them really need love or much of anything else. Daphne doesn't even need self acceptance. They fall into it right from the start, no confusion, no reluctance, a not very interesting story since their is no confusion or reluctance from anyone else really (unlike real life.) The big draw in this show is the dancing which is quite good with some great sets and costumes and some funny lines but it left me as soon as I got back on 44th Street except for the title song (and thanks for explaining its familiarity) |
