I'm not so sure that's right either, I think it's clear that Jerry isn't trans and isn't getting a sex-change operation, and wants to be able to be Daphne or Jerry, though it also makes it seem as if once Jerry find Daphne, it's always Daphne. He comes alive, or discovers a new side of him, in the female presentation and typical femaleness of how he dresses up and puts on make-up to convince people Daphne is a woman, that isn't just a costume for a purpose like it is for Borle's character.

I think the show actually makes it pretty clear that Jerry is *gender fluid*, which is not the same as non-binary, and does not necessarily dictate using they/them. In fact it's more likely the person I saw drawn in this musical would use She/He/They. They/Them is really more used for people who don't identify as or with male or female... in this musical, it seems, as I recall, the character identifies as both, and also didn't seem to express any need/want to NOT be called he or she.

(it also isn't fair or accurate to assume that every person who contains or uses multitudes of gender expression and/or clothing and adornment choices that are either irrespective of gender or very much intentionally gendered for any given day or outfit want to not be using gendered pronouns. That may be true, and it also may not be. You don't have to be specifically non-binary to be a man who likes wearing "female" clothing or a "female" look, especially if you also like wearing "male" clothing or a male "look". Some people may be trans, or may be very into the gender binary but playing with it and switching around for themselves, some may want to go by he whether in "suit" or "gown", some may want she in either, some may want he for suit and she for gown, some may want either for either, some may want neither... and some... like it hot, apparently.)
