I think this is terrific news. It’s a gorgeous theatre that a lot of people somehow still don’t know about, let alone have seen the inside of. It’s a very large theatre (so capacity won’t be an issue). And based on the comments already, it’s going to cause a stir. I’m guessing Radio City was booked and they wanted a space with equivalent capacity. (Sorry! I checked and it isn’t even close to Radio City. But it’s much more than the Winter Garden or even the Beacon, so it’s probably the best they could do.) But whatever the reason I’m all for it.

The argument about it being ‘so far away’ so as to cause a logistical nightmare makes me laugh. For those of us who live up here (which would include a large proportion of the Broadway community - those who don’t live in Queens and other even further areas) it’s kind of nice to have the world come to you for once. Our lives are often a ‘logistical nightmare’ - especially when the MTA is doing weekend repairs.

But I’ve been wondering why there has still not been any announcement as to the eligibility rulings on shows thus far. It’s been one of the busiest fall seasons in recent memory. Maybe too busy for the admin committee to meet? Does this announcement mean that one is coming soon?
