| The new book still doesn't work (and oddly I thought it worked less well last night than it did at the Kennedy Center though I can't recall any differences between the two). Lena Hall, Solea Pfeiffer, and Ramin were all in great voice. Darren Criss couldn't hit the notes for most of the songs but they transposed Pity the Child down to let him succeed in his big showcase number. Glad I went, but definitely not Broadway ready. I'm of the opinion that no version of the show will ever fully work, but I do feel like the Royal Albert Hall concert version gets the closest of all the ones I've seen/read. |
