I agree with much of your assessment of last night. The two Coopers were miscast, even though they have good voices (but not for this score). They're too mature and not the youngish, rather nubile waifish twins the roles call for. Santino Fontana did pretty well for the most part, though even he dropped character in a Harvey Korman-ish way of the old Carol Burnett shows at one point, laughing at some over-the-top stuff that Lesli Margherita was doing. She was the worst offender, not only singing on her vocal cords, perhaps trying to approximate some Janis Joplin singing (but painful to the ears the way she did it), but also seeming to mock the show and character she was playing, which is rather unforgivable. A lot of the audience sat on their hands at the conclusion of her numbers.

The theater did mislead people by the very prominent billing on the title page of the program about some of those "guest stars". I'm glad I got a TDF ticket for not that much. A prominent theater professor I know told me he was leaving at intermission and listen to the OCR again instead of staying.

I had listened to the CD of the OCR a few days before the show, and it's a really fun score, led by Leland Palmer and Russ (then billed as Rusty) Thacker. Being that the original ran more the 900 performances and was optioned for a good deal of money to perhaps be made into a film back in the late 60s, there is still an enjoyable show there. But what Red Bull did to it by miscasting and bad direction really sunk it for the most part.
