There is an assumption from posters that the show performances will be held at this same theater. But we also saw the Moulin Rouge Tonys where performances were done in the theater of the show itself (was it technically 2021? I lost track of time during the pandemic) So I’m not so sure there won’t be satellite live venues with other Paramount shows like the VMAs. Or even prerecorded. The CBS Thanksgiving Day Parade already does this.
Would love to assume this decision was to highlight the larger theater community and/or its population, or Lin has a very special show up his sleeve for us, but it feels like a financial decision to keep the costs down. Ie Cheaper venue where you don’t need to pay an extravagant rental fee. There could potentially be a labor savings etc.
Frankly, Broadway is so specifically defined by the number of seats In certain Midtown theaters and the general location of the theater district that the move feels incongruous to me. But I hope they are able to pull off some magic on screen since that’s the key thing that matters. |
