I have heard Malcolm Gets on that cast album of Lucky Stiff. His accent certainly isn't good, but Annaleigh Ashford's accent in Kinky Boots is far, far worse.
Or to put it another way, Annaleigh Ashford's accent in Kinky Boots is worse than Bernadette Peters's accent in Song and Dance. It's worse than Dick van Dyke's accent in Mary Poppins. It's the new gold standard in bad accents. How bad is it? Living in the UK, I hear a lot of terrible American accents in theatres here. *None* of them are as bad as Annaleigh Ashford's accent in Kinky Boots. I don't know what she thought she was doing, but those are not sounds you hear anywhere in this country. Or anywhere else on this planet. |
