Tony Winner: Into the Woods
Nominations: Into the Woods, Bob Fosse’s Dancin’, Sweeney Todd, Camelot

Dancin’ didn’t have the strongest reviews but I wouldn’t discount it from the nominations. Fosse (the show) won the Tony but it’s been a bit since a dance revue had its day on Broadway. But to my mind, Into the Woods is the favorite going into the Tonys. It will be on tour which helps although not being open on Broadway may make it feel less fresh. Still, I predict it will have a lot of good will.
That’s all to say. I don’t assume for a moment that Sweeney will make a killing at the Tonys. Quite the opposite. It is likely to walk away empty handed. |
