It wasn't selling throughout previews, and we'll see if there's a post-review Xmas bump.

The grosses were stuck in the 600,000 range throughout the entire preview period, indicating that the word of mouth was either so-so or just not kicking in.

Last week showed a promising bump into 700,000 range, with 7 previews and one performance.

But almost all healthy musicals are well above 1,000,000, some approaching 2,000,000, and one (THE MUSIC MAN) well above 3,000,000.

While not in the ignominious league of KPOP or AIN'T NO MO, SOME LIKE IT HOT has so far been in the league of the lower grossing musicals.

I was troubled by aspects of it and didn't throw my hat in the air; the word of mouth I heard around me bore little resemblance to the overall critical raves.

We'll see if it catches on, enough to withstand the traditional January graveyard and whatever Covid has in store for us this winter.

I was absolutely astonished that KPOP and AIN'T NO MO weren't capitalized to blast through into the new year no matter what. Xmas to New Year's is one of the highest grossing weeks of the year, and there's an enormous tax advantage for shows to close in the New Year rather than in the main capitalization year (I don't know what it is, but I've been told that by those who seem to know, and it would account for why so many shows usually close in January.)
