Were Mike & Stro married yet when both were nominated for Crazy For You? I looked it up. They weren’t. They did Big together later but while Stro was nominated, Mike wasn’t.

I think John Dossett was nominated for Gypsy the year Michele Pawk won for Hollywood Arms. Maybe they weren't married yet...?

In 1956. She for "The Matchmaker," he for directing "The Diary of Anne Frank"

And speaking of "The Diary of Anne Frank," the husband-and-wife team of Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett shared a Tony (and a Pulitzer) for writing the play.

You can also add the Spewacks to this list for as the book writers of "Kiss Me, Kate."

But, surprisingly, at least to me, the husband and wife team of Ruth and Augustus Goetz were NOT nominated for writing the stage adaptation of THE HEIRESS in 1948.

I didn't realize that, but the Goetz omission makes more sense then. Thanks for the clarification, AlanScott.

Of course, with the competition that season, The Heiress would not have won had there been more voters and public nominations, but it probably would have been nominated. The awards back then were decided upon by the directors of the American Theatre Wing, which I think was around 25 people. Maybe even fewer. I think they had a few meetings around a table. I think I have come across articles from the time that get pretty specific, but I don't have them handy.

Tom and Theoni V. Aldredge were both nominated in 1981, he for The Little Foxes and she for 42nd Street, and in 1972, he for Sticks and Bones and she for Two Gentlemen of Verona.

I always loved them both.

I thought the legendary acting couple pre-dated the Tonys - but went on to IBDB only to learn they were both nominated for their Broadway swan song “The Visit” that premiered at the Lunt-Fontanne

Alfred Lunt lost to Jason Robards
Lynn Fontanne lost to Gertrude Berg of “Molly Goldberg” fame - tv show was before my time but became familiar with her since “Molly” starring the great Kaye Ballard tried out in Boston at the Shubert

Maybe the voters felt that having a theatre named after them was enough for that season

Burstein and Luker weren't nominated in the same season. Burstein was nominated for a 2006 Tony for THE DROWSY CHAPERONE (2005-06 season), and Luker was nominated for a 2007 Tony for MARY POPPINS (2006-07 season).

This might be a technicality, but Tracy Letts and Carrie Coon were both nominated for WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? in 2013 (with Letts winning). They weren't married at the time of the ceremony, but they tied the knot later that same year.

On the non-performer side, Kathleen Marshall (director/choreographer) and Scott Landis (producer), several times.

Donna McKechnie and Michael Bennett married in Dec., 1976 but were obviously partners in spring, 1976 when both were nominated and won Tonys for A Chorus Line.
