She for "The Matchmaker," he for directing "The Diary of Anne Frank" And speaking of "The Diary of Anne Frank," the husband-and-wife team of Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett shared a Tony (and a Pulitzer) for writing the play. You can also add the Spewacks to this list for as the book writers of "Kiss Me, Kate." |

| But, surprisingly, at least to me, the husband and wife team of Ruth and Augustus Goetz were NOT nominated for writing the stage adaptation of THE HEIRESS in 1948. | |

| Of course, with the competition that season, The Heiress would not have won had there been more voters and public nominations, but it probably would have been nominated. The awards back then were decided upon by the directors of the American Theatre Wing, which I think was around 25 people. Maybe even fewer. I think they had a few meetings around a table. I think I have come across articles from the time that get pretty specific, but I don't have them handy. | |
