| CAMELOT mail flyer came to me today. “From the theater that brought you the acclaimed revivals of South Pacific, The King and I, and My Fair Lady…” Am I supposed to be impressed because it’s playing in the same venue as other LCT revivals? I suppose they mean “Lincoln Center Theater” as an organization but then say that. If it said, “from the creative team” or “from the producers” or “from the director” or something involving humans, fine. I mean it is Bartlett Sher again so that would be totally legitimate. But it reads like I’m supposed to care what venue it’s playing in. And that this production would be equally pleasurable as those shows for that reason alone. FWIW - the Vivian Beaumont is not my favorite. |

| It is a "Lincoln Center Theater production", not a Vivian Beaumont production. Also the "T" in "LCT". Oh, that's right, you said "Lincoln Center Theater", which is exactly what is meant on the mailer. But you know that. |

| I think it's abundantly clear that "theater" means theater company in this instance. | |

| Well, at least it was hijacked by a sub-thread on Rigoletto. | |

| I mean it is Bartlett Sher again so that would be totally legitimate. You mean the Bartlett Sher that did that awful Rigoletto currently at the Met? Yup, totally legitimate. |

| Some day the Met will realise that Barbiere was a fluke and stop hiring him, no matter how good his work next door. I think it was Comte Ory that led me to the conclusion that he doesn't understand or even like opera. (I've just missed this Rigoletto a second time, so I can't comment until it comes back again.) |

| I run hot and cold with his direction but love Comte Ory and feel the Rigoletto is a vast improvement over Myers's Vegas fiasco. | |

| The Vegas setting, while sometimes visually stunning, made no sense and the story was not well told. The current production tells the story clearly and, for me, is a much more visually satisfying experience. | |

| The current production tells the story clearly Except for that ridiculous "dream sequence" near the end. And Gilda's abduction is pretty odd too. And for all the fuss about it being set in 1920's Germany, I don't see any of that. The story would have been a lot clearer if set in Mantua. And it's so dark and drab, in ways it didn't have to be. At least the Vegas production was colorful and more exciting visually in general. I can't say this production has much to watch at all. |

| It's just weird. It's supposed to be set in Weimar Germany (why I don't know), but it's not really. It has fantasy dream sequences that don't make sense (well, one at least). The Vegas Rigoletto had its problems too, but at least it was interesting to look at - this isn't. And lots and lots of turntable, because hey, gotta have a gimmick, and use it over and over... | |

| LCT is an org. But “the theater” can mean either. From Lincoln Center Theater who brought you these other revivals…” would work much better. |

| Have you seen the poster for this? The top half is a Brigadoon. The bottom half is The Lion King. Two beautiful halves did not make a whole Camelot. |
