| "ALMOST FAMOUS" THE NEW MUSICAL BASED ON THE ICONIC FILM WILL PLAY ITS FINAL BROADWAY PERFORMANCE SUNDAY, JANUARY 8 New York, NY (December 19, 2022) - Today, producers Lia Vollack and Michael Cassel announced that Almost Famous, the new musical with book and co-lyrics by Academy Award(r) and Grammy Award(r) winner Cameron Crowe, based on his iconic film, will play its final performance on Broadway on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre (242 W. 45th St.) Almost Famous will have played 30 preview performances and 77 performances through January 8, 2023. In a statement the producers said, "Almost Famous, like the music it celebrates, will endure. We look forward to the release of the cast recording on March 17, and to the many productions in communities across the country and world, for years to come." Almost Famous features music and co-lyrics by Tony, Grammy, Emmy and Pulitzer Prize Award(r) winner Tom Kitt, direction by Tony and Olivier Award(r) nominee Jeremy Herrin, and choreography by Sarah O'Gleby. The production stars Chris Wood, Tony Award(r) nominee Anika Larsen, Solea Pfeiffer, Drew Gehling, Rob Colletti, and Casey Likes. The company also includes Matt Bittner, Chad Burris, Gerard Canonico, Julia Cassandra, Brandon Contreras, Jakeim Hart, Van Hughes, Jana Djenne Jackson, Claire Kwon, Katie Ladner, Danny Lindgren, Erica Mansfield, Alisa Melendez, Kevin Trinio Perdido, Andrew Poston, Emily Schultheis, Daniel Sovich, Libby Winters and Matthew C. | The same could be said for "Phantom of the Opera" which, while giving plenty of employment, perhaps have kept folks who might fit another kind of show from getting employment (with the possibility of many, many one- or two-year run musicals over the years playing the Majestic). | |

| I am not happy the show is closing. I liked it very much, so did my friends. And the cast is excellent. The show was selling out about 3/4 of the theater so this isn’t a box office disaster like KPOP or some of the plays currently running. I won’t be surprised if Almost Famous does well on tour and possibly in Australia which may happen because of one of the producers. I also wonder if another director will be chosen to give the show a sharper edge and perhaps add a killer rock number in act one. I do wonder what will happen to Kimberly Akimbo and Some Like It Hot as A Beautiful Noise and &Juliet are stealing their thunder. |
