| I liked this book very much, partly because the usual anecdotes are given a side glance type of view Also looking forward to another full biography. | |

| I liked it too, though I did know a lot of the answers to Max's questions. But I didn't know Sondheim's opinions on the Beatles and a few other things. And I think the give and take between Max and Sondheim was interesting. |

| There were aspects of it I liked, and I get that he attempts to excuse himself by saying he's presenting a non-expert's take on Sondheim, but showing up for an interview with him having not read his two volumes of (semi)autobiography or, apparently, even being aware of them is ridiculous. | |

| I'm with you-really disappointed in a book I was looking so forward to. I thought a writer for the New Yorker would have done his research on this dream assignment. Really seemed kind of insulting-you could learn more from a Wiki posting. | |

| That was bad. Especially not being aware of them. I haven't read them cover to cover, but I dip into them and read a show at a time, or go from one critique of a lyricist to another. But if i was writing a profile on him, I'd read as much as I could. At least he didn't bluff. If he did, Sondheim would have chewed him up. |
