But half the score of School of Rock isn't by Lloyd Webber; it's from a movie that was already a musical, written by others, and not originally intended as a Broadway production. JCS was also not originally intended as a Broadway production. It tells us something that the one show Lloyd Webber aimed at Broadway from the beginning failed to arrive.

I think one of the fundamental attributes of "great Broadway composer" is that they aimed several productions at Broadway from the very beginning, and that several of them also arrived there.

In the spirit of the season, I will refrain from discussing quality of music--or lyrics. (The latter, of course, are not Lloyd Webber's, but since he chooses his lyricists he's ultimately responsible for them.)
