Why is Netflix not giving this film support?

There is virtually no advertising for this film. It was released to theaters a couple of weeks ago---but who knew? I only became aware of it playing locally when I was looking at what movies were playing at the Quad Cinema in the village. Again, Netflix seemed to be keeping it's release a secret. It's now streaming on Netflix----but no advertising. No NYT review. Released to theaters in England a few weeks ago and a big hit---but here crickets.

I’m surprised at no golden globe nomination.

It was released in us on Dec 9. None of the five musical or comedy are musicals. Elvis didn’t make it either and glass onion knives out does not deserve a nomination. I doubt I’d put banshees or triangle of sadness in comedy category (although the h&m vs Gucci model look still makes me laugh).

As for theaters, AMC does not show movies that will be streamed in one or two weeks. I was surprised glass onion knives out was at AMC so maybe they are relaxing that prohibition. But that might be why Matilda was only at art houses in nyc and la to qualify for awards.

I liked Glass Onion. I'm fine with it being nominated.

''None of the five musical or comedy are musicals. Elvis didn’t make it either''

The Golden Globes LOVE musicals, so it's surprising ''Matilda'' didn't make the cut. (In the past, they nominated Netflix's ''The Prom.'')

As for ''Elvis,'' it was submitted and got 3 Golden Globe nominations as a Drama: Best Drama, Director and Best Actor (Austin Butler).

Musical biopics sometimes have competed in the Comedy/Musical category and other times, in Drama.

''Rocketman,'' the Elton John biopic, was in Comedy/Musical, but ''Bohemian Rhapsody,'' the Freddie Mercury biopic, was in Drama. Go figure!

The fact that it received only a very limited cinema release was discussed in this very forum last week. It does not lie in Netflix's power to compel a NYT review, but nevertheless:

Note the date on the review. Only thus far online and not in print. Why are they just now reviewing it after being in theaters for several weeks? I would assume Netflix said it could not be reviewed in the US until the stream began----again, very bad marketing.

Yes, I noted the date. Makes it even more baffling that you weren't able to find it, eh? And the New York Times ran a piece analyzing Netflix's release strategy for both Matilda and Glass Onion in November. Had you read it, you would have learned that the theatrical release of the film is controlled by Sony, and has nothing to do with Netflix.
