The LA Times has context on the new "Still Holding My Hand" number as well as some other changes made by the writers and director from the stage version.
Didn't notice the 'No Giraffes' sign by the Trunchbull statue when I first watched it yesterday but just went back and looked again!

A new song to qualify for golden globe and Oscar noms since the rest of the score is from the stage.
It is a nice song.

It's a very nice song, and very effective to me.

If the new closing number works, I wish they'd consider putting it into the stage show, which to me ends really awkwardly, and without a true musical finale (just the bows reprises of "When I Grow Up" and "Naughty"). The Russian scene as is just fizzles out.

I liked the Russian scene on stage since she learned the language reading books to save her father that ripped apart books. It was cut for the movie.

I like the scene, and I feel it's important - it's just that IMO it doesn't end the show in of itself in a particularly strong way. Yes, there are shows that end without that expected final number (Gypsy and The Music Man come to mind immediately), but they also have very strong book scenes at the end - the Russian scene et al isn't quite strong enough to also be the musical's ending, IMO.
