I much preferred Matilda the musical. I found Matilda the movie unbearably sadistic. Heavy emphasis on Emma Thompson’s Trunchbull cruelty. Maybe this is more true to Roald Dahl’s book. The kids are all fantastic though—actors, singers, dancers. I couldn’t get enough of them. And I still love Revolting Children and When I Grow Up. But I had to wade through endless screen awfulness to get to them.
