| What part does he play, and is there an OBCA? I tried unsuccessfully to post this before, so apologies if it turns up later. I saw Mr. Szot in South Pacific(x 2 ) and on Broadway HD broadcast of STREET SCENE/ | |

| His part is fairly small for someone with his renown and talent. I am surprised he took the part especially given that it doesn’t allow him to show his truly magnificent voice. | |

| He has two great numbers - one is fun duet with the nurse, "Teenage Dream" in act 1 and in act 2 - he smashes it with "The Shape of My Heart" - it's a role that won an Olivier Award for best supporting actor in a musical for David Bedella. | |

| I saw him play Billy Flynn a year ago September, the famous night of multiple reopenings on Broadway post Covid. Arguably, the two decade old Chicago revival is a less likely gig than a hot new import. He clearly likes to work. And was quite wonderful. | |

| He doesn't have to travel, gets a steady paycheck, probably enjoys the less challenging music for the time being and if he wants to take time off to do a serious role or two in opera or a concert, can get it. Good for him. This Tony Award winner has earned it. | |

| He plays Lance, who's a father to one of the characters Juliet meets when she goes to France. There is a Broadway cast recording (I've included the Spotify link below). The tracks that show Paulo off the most are 'Teenage Dream' and 'Shape of My Heart' I've seen the show 4 times now (twice with the original cast in London and twice with the Broadway cast in Toronto) and I just think it's non-stop fun! |

| I saw the HELLO DOLLY revival 4 times. Midler x 2, Murphy and Peters each x1. Loved it every time. Each leading lady brought something special to the role. Saw the original production of A CHORUS LINE three times and the revival once. I saw PHANTOM OF THE OPERA at least 5 times over 34 years. Les Miz - 4 times (original production); Revival twice Evita - Ricky Martin/Elena Roger revival 3 times. City Center - Twice Carrie, The Musical 3 times (Stafford Arima revival) Every production of Jesus Christ Superstar that comes around. Every production of Gypsy. (Daly, Lavin, Peters, LuPone. Film - Russell; TV - Midler Every production of Cabaret since the 1988 revival with Grey/Reed. The Sam Mendes revival multiple times. And the movie - too many times to count. Original production of M. Butterfly 3 times. Revival once. Probably a lot more that I’m not even remembering. Damn, that’s more than I realized. I initially thought I haven’t seen too many shows multiple times….Lol. |

| The commercial internet wasn't really established until the 1990s. There was no internet in 1981 when Merrily happened. My first computer was a used Macintosh in 1989--probably a two year old model at the time. There is no way you would have brought that on a plane. | |

| Stark Sands, John Gallagher and Adrian Blake Enscoe were stellar as shipwrecked sailors in ''Swept Away,'' a new musical by the Avett brothers, at Berkeley Rep. The gritty story was grim, but the cast gave its all on a showstopping set of a ship. I wonder where ''Swept Away'' drops anchor next. | |

| One of the most memorable and impactful experiences I've had in the theater, and that covers many many hundreds of experiences as an audience member. I almost didn't go, assuming it would be boring. I hadn't heard much about it. I went the week it was closing. I'm so so glad I did. Stark Sands, if Journey's End is not a fluke, is capable of far more quality acting than most of his jobs since then have given him to opportunity to show. |

| I believe it is probably the only play where I felt so shattered at the end I couldn't get out of my seat, I could never understand why audiences weren't huge. Perhaps the nihilism of war is something Broadway audiences didn't care to see but of course it is something everyone should confront. | |

| It was terrific…but unusual..l Broadway fare. I remember seeing it from the last row of the orchestra, completely enraptured, and ultimately devastated. I felt as if the bombs had ripped through me. (Thanks, in no small part, I’m sure, to the stunning sound design.) | |

| I totally agree. Up there with the best I’ve ever seen. Bought a balcony seat but was seated in the orchestra. Terrific. Last show I saw at the Belasco before it was beautifully restored and renovated. I think disgust over the Iraq war kepy people away. Original production launched the career of director James Whale. Ironic that Brendan Fraser played Whale’s object of desire in Gods and Monsters and now makes a comeback in The Whale. | |

| I also bought a balcony seat but was seated in the orchestra. I agree with all the positive comments others have posted about this production. Very powerful play, rarely done. The 2019 film 1917 had similar themes in it. TCM years ago broadcast the 1930 film version of Journey's End, directed by James Whale. Unfortunately, Whale had not developed any real filming technique at this time. The film was stagy, extremely slow, and very long. It had a fine cast including Colin Clive, David Manners, and Billy Bevan, but I couldn't take more than 30 minutes of it. Many of Whale's subsequent 30's films like Waterloo Bridge (1931 version), Frankenstein, The Old Dark House, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein, Show Boat (1936 version), The Man in the Iron Mask, etc. were much better. His openly gay lifestyle may have brought about his early retirement in 1941. Sadly, he killed himself in 1957. |

| I don't think any other play experience has come close to leaving me shattered and stunned when the lights came up as either of those did. Somehow, despite being under-appreciated and under-attended, it managed to win Best Revival at the Tonys. Perhaps because the other contenders were not very notable (Inherit the Wind, Talk Radio, Translations... I see a lot of shows and managed to miss all 3, possibly because Coast of Utopia was that year and took up 3 slots)... but still, it won! A real real shame it's final performance was the same day it won the Tony. |

| I don't think it was underappreciated by the critics, nor by the audiences that did show up. You just couldn't get very many people there, doubtless because it sounded too upsetting and depressing. | |

I met Richard Poe at a Sardi's lunch along with mutual pals. He plays the often spoken about, sometimes heard and seldom seen character Chopper Dave on "Frasier" and has done a ton of audio books! |
