| I’ve written before that & Juliet had a couple of good hooks to interest an audience, but the main reason it’s a hit is that, much like Six, it’s a fun show that lives in the idiom of a younger, pop-culture-focused generation. Aside from the poor marketing and the surprising lack of enthusiasm for a new-fangled, old-school musical, I think Some Like It Hot has been a victim of its source material; people who know and love the film are upset with the liberties the show takes (and are in a demographic that tend to be more conservative on social issues, compounding the problem), while people who don’t know the film aren’t being given a strong enough reason to choose the show over other options. |
