| The honorees: George Clooney, Amy Grant, Gladys Knight, Tania Leon and U2. (Taking part will be Ariana DeBose, Chita Rivera and Patti LaBelle.) It looked like U2 was the only honoree with a direct Broadway link, since Bono and the Edge wrote songs for ''Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.'' But it turns out that Gladys Knight and the Pips did a one-week run on Broadway in 1984, and she guest-starred in ''Smokey Joe's Cafe.'' Tania Leon is celebrated as Cuban-American composer, but she also conducted the 1984 Broadway musical of ''The Human Comedy.'' As for George Clooney, his aunt Rosemary Clooney was married to 4-time Tony winner Jose Ferrer (who earlier was wed to Uta Hagen). Couldn't find a Broadway tie-in for Amy Grant, but maybe someone else here knows ones I'm missing, plus any other Broadway links. |

| The Kennedy Center states that the primary criterion is "excellence, and artistic achievement in dance, music, theatre, opera, motion pictures, and television." | |

| We should all boycott these "Honors" and send messages to the committee or producers somehow that until they honor Liza Minnelli, their awards are bogus. Year after year they refuse to honor her and she is certainly the most talented singer/dancer/actor and generous person our country has ever produced. | |

| Agreed; she’s an EGOT, and every year this seems to come up. It’s unfathomable that she hasn’t been considered and likely her resistance to the required celebration is a factor. I saw this reopened after her Oscar appearance. | |
