I saw him play Billy Flynn a year ago September, the famous night of multiple reopenings on Broadway post Covid. Arguably, the two decade old Chicago revival is a less likely gig than a hot new import. He clearly likes to work. And was quite wonderful.
He doesn't have to travel, gets a steady paycheck, probably enjoys the less challenging music for the time being and if he wants to take time off to do a serious role or two in opera or a concert, can get it. Good for him. This Tony Award winner has earned it.
