| This is not particularly new or timely, but with Will Swenson’s impressive Diamond it keeps occurring to me. SJB, Myles Frost, Jessie Mueller and Adrienne Warren won Tonys for portraying star personalities. SJB debuted(?) with her Liza in Boy from Oz. Many bio musicals/plays have brought acclaim and noms to Tracie Bennett, Mary B Davies. All of this over the creation of original characters. Is it apples to apples? Does it matter? Vilify me, but I’d love your thoughts. And I’m very sure I’ll get them. |
